SPLICE is in its second year and is the only festival for AudioVisual (AV) arts in the UK. It�s an amazing live line-up boasting top AV acts from across the globe, (headliners include Coldcut, Mira Calix, Filastine, DJ Food, Zan Lyons, J:Kenzo, EBN, Urban Projections, Mius, Optika, Adam Smith (talk) and workshop with Resolute), taking place from 26-28 May 2017.

Splice Festival is back for its second edition, taking place over the bank holiday weekend 26th - 28th May 2017 at East London�s multi-arts centres Rich Mix, Red Gallery and Kamio. Part of the EU funded AV Node network, Splice brings together over 40 international artists to celebrate the diverse field of audiovisual performance, including live cinema, AV remixing, VJing, video art and projection mapping. This year sees another diverse programme with headline act Coldcut, Award-winning Mira Calix and DJ Food among the performers alongside a host of educational talks, networking and satellite events.
�The worldwide AV scene is exploding with talent and creativity and we are proud to give it a home in the UK. Our programming focuses on work that makes a statement artistically, by utilising digital and analogue technology in new ways or through political commentary.� says festival producer Pete Thornton.
On headlining the festival Coldcut�s Matt Black adds "We�re stoked to be part of Splice festival, AV art being a major Coldcut passion, in our 30th year. Splice connects electronic musicians, visualists, coders, inventors and makers from the UK, Europe and beyond into a gestalt of the artform."
PERFORMANCES: Ninja Tune founders and ground-breaking AV pioneers Coldcut return in their 30th anniversary year to headline Splice with their brand new AV show. Multi award-winning composer Mira Calix (Warp Records) presents a special DJ/VJ set inspired by Josef Albers experiments with colour. Turntablist DJ Food performs his �Selected Aphex Works� AV set, plus a rare live performance from the American godfathers of AV remixing - Emergency Broadcast Network (EBN) in their first appearance in over a decade. Multimedia duo Filastine & Nova present their provocative new future bass show �Drapetomania�, designed to undermine borders and strike against xenophobia. French visionaries 1024 Architecture perform �Recession� - a journey through what�s left of our civilisation. Zan Lyons fuses live viola looping with distorted beats and real-time remixing of his own films. Urban Projections unveil the World Premiere of their new show �Stratum�mixing environmental recordings, electronic beats and geometric abstraction. Budapest based band M�us x Attaray Visual close the festival with their poetic journey into a timeless microcosmos of darkness and light.
Experimental music based performances with Q&A�s come from Spatial-Golding, Christian Faubel & Ralf Schreiber and Martina Zena. European partner event, Athens Digital Arts Festivalpresent a screening programme entitled #PostFuture.
Other artists include Mixmaster Morris, Scald Process, Dotokime, Eclectic Method, Adrena Adrena, Alba Corral, Tim Cowie, Joe Beedles, Ben Sheppee, No Signal, Bitvert, Aeldryn, Matteo Zamagni and Ilia Rogatchevski.
SATELLITE EVENTS: Saturday night event, Extended Play is headlined by Rinse FM resident J:Kenzo alongside underground electronic producers Hector Plimmer and ScanOne with politically charged visuals from Sagberg. Independent video art event, Panorama also host a night of screenings, live music and exhibitions at Genesis Cinema as a warm-up to the festival on Tuesday 23rdMay.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME: Talks come from award-winning director Adam Smith, best known for his visionary video work on The Chemical Brothers live shows; and Memo Akten, founding member of Marshmallow Laser Feast and winner of the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica. Founders of leading AV software Resolume, Edwin de Koning and Bart van der Ploeg host workshops and give an exclusive preview of Resolume 6. Fran�ois Wunschel hosts a talk and masterclass based on MadMapper, the leading projection mapping software that he co-created. Colombian artist Optika hosts a workshop on LED Mapping & Stage Design, Manchester�s Test Card host a Networking Forum to debate the future of AV arts in the UK whilst Panel Discussions focus on sampling culture and the diverse practices of live cinema.
INSTALLATIONS: Emmy award-winning CG artist Andy Lomas presents his stereoscopic installation �Constrained Forms� and EBN unveil their new touch-screen project �Full Release� which contains never before seen archive footage.
Splice is supported by the Arts Council of England, the EU�s Creative Europe programme, the Dutch Embassy and the Colombian Ministry of Culture. Partners include University of the Arts, London, video technology pioneers QED Productions, Insight Lighting, Hark Audio, Splice Post plus media partners Resonance FM and The Quietus and drinks sponsors Pistonhead and Drovers Hill.
